.) We just finished our annual Gospel Meeting here at Midway. Richard Rogers–who preached here two different tenures for almost 20 years–was our guest speaker. We emphasized “Coming Home” as the theme for the week. Though meeting success isn’t totally dependent on numbers, we were blessed to have 4 souls rededicate their lives to the Lord & 2 young people to put on Christ in baptism. You can listen to Richard’s lessons on our website or download them through iTunes. Midway Gospel Meeting Sermons Online. I recommend “He Came to Himself” (Tuesday PM).
.) Pornography is the biggest plague our young adults and children face. I highly recommend Covenant Eyes for their software and resources. This week, CE posted an interview with a psychiatrist about the psychological effects of pornography on both children and adults. Much work and prayer lies ahead of us. Porn: A Psychiatric Perspective.
.) You need to subscribe to Andy Stanley’s Leadership Podcast. Period. Two quotes from the past two podcasts: “What do I believe is impossible to do in my field, but if it could be done, would fundamentally change my business?” (from Joel Barker; “Breaking Paradigms” episode, May 2009). “When your memories exceed your dreams, the end is near” (from “Keeping Your Vision Out in Front” episode, June 2009).
.) Three US soldiers from Walker County have given their lives in battle over the past two years. Most recently, Cpl. Dusty Parrish was killed when a missile hit the truck he was driving. I’m very thankful for the thousands of young men and women who have given their lives to defend our freedoms. Cpl. Parrish was the nephew of some members here at Midway and nearby Sixth Avenue. Here’s video from NBC13 in Birmingham of his body’s arrival. Watch for his four-year-old son’s “JFK Jr.” moment. Body of Alabama Soldier Arrives Home.
.) Scott McCown writes a brief entry about a recent fishing trip with his son, Andrew. Check out the comments. The Family that Fishes Together…
