It figures that the week I get a shout out on another blog (Thanks, Bruno!), I mess up my posting “schedule.” We’re wrapping up four days of service projects this week, so I’ve not really been in the office. I’ll say a little more about my busy week in the next day or two.
This past Saturday, I performed my first wedding ceremony; it was for Dusty and Jessica (Woods) Reid. It was a privilege to be a part of this special moment in their lives. They have great potential as a couple and I’m excited to work alongside them in the kingdom.
I underestimated the flood of emotions I would experience during the ceremony itself. I was touched by their love for one another and their emotional responses (as well as their families’) during the ceremony. I was touched by the humble privilege to counsel them and administer their holy vows to one another. I was touched to look out in the auditorium and see my beautiful bride of 4 years and 1 month (to the day). I was touched thinking that the beauty of a wedding ceremony is how Christ views us as His church (Eph. 5:21-33).
I’ll remember Saturday, June 20th, 2009–and its accompanied touching moments for many years to come.
